To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing in regards to the anticipated elementary teaching positions that will open in the district for the 2021-22 school year.  I am confident that my academic background at Michigan State University and my range of experiences would make me a great candidate for these positions.

I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Michigan State University in 2012, with a teaching major in Language Arts.  I am qualified to teach kindergarten through fifth grade in all core content areas.  I am also qualified to teach grades six through eight in language arts.  I graduated with my master’s degree from Michigan State University in the Master of Arts in Education program (MAED) in May 2018.   The focus area in my master's program was literacy instruction, with elective courses focusing on technology integration within elementary content areas and student behavior and motivation.

From August 2014-June 2019, I taught second grade at Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes School.  This position required strong classroom management, great communication skills with students, families and staff, and the ability to meet the individual needs of each student in my classroom.  The school used the following programs: Making Meaning Comprehension and Vocabulary, McGraw-Hill: My Math, and Studies Weekly: Social Studies.  From June 2019-June 2020, I taught sixth grade in a self contained classroom, also at Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes School. During my time in that position, I used the following programs: Journeys ELA, Interactive Science (6th grade), TCI Science (5th Grade) & TCI Social Studies (6th Grade). I worked hard to implement these programs into my classroom while modifying and differentiating the curriculum to meet the needs of my students.  I am confident that the skills and knowledge I gained from these positions will be a great asset at the elementary level.

In addition to great experience within the classroom, I also care deeply about community and school involvement.  I was a member of the Faculty Handbook Committee.  I was also a lead member of the Alumni Committee and planned various events over the years to increase alumni communication and involvement with the school.  I strongly believe that fostering a positive and active relationship with the school community is an important part of any teaching position.

Currently, I am a building substitute teacher and teacher apprentice at Troy Union Elementary, in the Troy School District.  As a substitute teacher, I adhere to lesson plans and directions as outlined by the classroom teacher.  I also maintain a safe and orderly environment for all students, as well as maintain the established routines and procedures of the classroom and school.  In addition, I complete other duties as assigned by administration.  As a teacher apprentice, I assist with providing high-level literacy and math learning experiences for students; prescribing, teaching, and assessing the course of study that provides tiered levels of support; and collaborating with general education teachers to coordinate implementation of strategies.

I would love to discuss this opportunity with you further and look forward to speaking with you.  If you have any questions or would like to set up a time to talk, you may reach me at huebner.allie@gmail.com.  Thank you for your time and consideration.

Respectfully Yours,

Allison M. Selden
